Getting Started with Synology: Using Amazon S3 for Backup
We’ve talked a little bit about using a Synology for backup in this blog. A Synology is a type of NAS, or Network Attached Storage. A NAS allows you to set up a home network with relative ease, and a Synology is even easier to use than most. Imagine being able to easily access multiple decades’ worth of photos, and all the movies you’ve taken, and backups of files for your home business at all times. All the important data from your phones, iPads, and laptops could flow to the same place, get organized, and be backed up to a cheap (but very reliable) off-site cloud service—Amazon S3. Sounds good, doesn’t it? This setup does require a bit of configuration, so here’s what you do when setting one up for the first time. But once you do that, you still need to set things up to back up your files. And though there are plenty of articles that can guide you through the Synology setup, there are relatively few that walk you through the use of Amazon S3. Settle in.
CRM Search, Take 2: Zoho CRM
A few weeks ago, we wrote about choosing a CRM (Contact Relationship Manager) for a law practice client of ours. We promised to report back with the results, and here we are. We were setting up HubSpot on our client’s computer, and during the setup process, we were asked to download her contacts from Outlook as a .CSV. What? No! We need a CRM that syncs contacts both ways. We were so excited about HubSpot’s Outlook compatibility and its plugin that allows you to pull from a library of built-in email templates and documents, or schedule a series of timed emails inside the familiar Outlook interface. Based on the elegance of this integration, contact syncing seemed like it would be a given. Apparently not.
Sending WordPress Blog Posts to Email Subscribers
One of our clients recently asked us to implement a feature for their WordPress blog that would allow them to automatically email out their blog posts to subscribers. In the past, we’ve discouraged this for a number of reasons. But ultimately the customer is always right, so the search is on for the perfect solution. One thing we love about WordPress is that a plugin exists for almost any function you can think of. On the other hand, that means a lot of research to find exactly what you need.
