Image ALT Tags Primer
If you’ve ever inserted an image into your WordPress or other website, you’ll know that you’re given the option to add what are commonly called “ALT tags.” If you want to be precise, they’re really called “alternative attributes of an image tag.” In other words, this text is a stand-in for the image in the code if your website is being accessed by search engine bots crawling the Internet, or by visually impaired users who may be listening to your site instead of reading it. And yes, these ALT tags are important—and for reasons that you might not anticipate.
A Free Website? Why Not?
Today there are more services offering free websites than ever before. Google “free website” and immediately you’ll see links to Wix, Yola, Weebly, and even our favorite, WordPress. So why would you pay good money for a website if you can build one for free? By all means—if you can make a free website for yourself that works, go for it! There are a number of considerations to keep in mind, and we’ll outline them below.
The Best Stock Photo Resources You’ve Never Heard of
Hopefully, you already know that it is NOT legal to download an image from Google Images and use it on your website. Right? Often, you’ll find the perfect image on Google Image Search that would be just right for your website, brochure, or blog. But the fact is—it is considered Illegal to use any image that holds a copyright without the owner’s permission or without purchasing a license that grants that permission. You may not get caught, or you may get a cease and desist letter from a lawyer… or you may even get sued by Getty. We don’t want that to happen to you. And the fact is, the image on Google Images may not even be large enough or high-quality enough for you to use in a print application. That’s okay, though, because we have plenty of stock photo resources that are inexpensive or even free.
