For the website, we knew that it would have to deliver an enormous amount of information and provide the user with multiple pathways to locate that information. When mapping out the content of the site, we knew we would need a Content Management System (CMS), and we chose Joomla! for its expandability and for the appealing interactive extensions already available for the application. The fact that Joomla! is open-source would also help to minimize maintenance costs.

We worked closely with managers at Pediatricians of Dallas to collaborate on content and ensure that we covered all the bases, and we even coordinated an on-site photo shoot to take photographs of all the doctors and staff and the facility itself. We would later use these photos for a slideshow that parents could use to show their children what to expect before their first visit and for bios of each pediatrician, nurse practitioner, and diagnostic specialist.

A slideshow on the homepage is frequently updated with news from the practice, from flu shots to water safety advice, and a blog allows the doctors to each express their own opinion on a variety of child-health subjects. We also re-branded all the practice’s forms with consistent typography and their new logo. We registered domain names for every physician in the practice and pointed them to the new site, and we negotiated the purchase of the pediatriciansofdallas.com domain name from a (non-physician) entity that had purchased it years ago.

To round out the project, we created branded avatars for the client’s Facebook and Twitter presences, as well as a branded background for their Twitter page, and we designed a flyer to announce the launch of the new website. With the client’s frequent updates, the site is now a content-rich resource for parents and children.
