How to Beta Test Your Website
Technically, beta testing is the LAST stage of testing for a computer product or website prior to commercial release. In reality, alpha testing comes first, and it’s done by your website developers (coders) as part of their internal process of verifying the functionality of your website before you get a chance to look at it. After alpha testing is complete, the website should be almost completely glitch-free. Completion of alpha testing doesn’t necessarily mean that the website is a finished product, though. You as the website owner or user might see changes that need to be made to make it work for your intended end users. That’s when beta testing comes onto the scene.
Defending Against a Data Breach
Between data breaches at Dropbox, Adobe, Yahoo, Target, and eBay, it’s unlikely that your personal information has not been compromised at some point. A “breach” is any incident in which a hacker illegally obtains data, usually by exploiting weaknesses in a business or other organization’s software. Not all data breaches contain usernames and passwords, but even without login information, a breach can still represent a privacy concern—for example, addresses or health information.
Is Domain Privacy Protection Worth It?
When you register a domain, you’re required to enter your full name, address, email address, and phone number. If your first instinct is to enter fake information, don’t do it. Providing false information is a violation of ICANN’s (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) terms of service, and you could potentially lose your domain name. There is always the option of domain privacy, and most domain registrars offer it for an additional cost—generally between $10-35 per year. So, is it worth it?
